iDSL innovation from iBurst boosts range of access options for 2010

    Print

Telecoms service provider iBurst has announced plans to launch a proprietary fixed line, unshaped DSL offering called iDSL in January next year.

The new packages are available on month-to-month contract packages with data allowance ranging from 1 Gigabyte to 60 Gigabytes per month. Package options of 1 GB, 2 GB, 5 GB, and 8 GB are priced at R49 per Gig, 15 GB at R39 per Gig with a 60 GB offering at only R29 per Gig.

iBurst’s new access solution leverages a Telkom IP Connect pipe which means that iBurst will be terminating DSL Internet traffic directly on its own network instead of doing so via Telkom. The result, in particular, is reduced latency for all on net applications which will find particular favour amongst online gaming communities.

“There will be no slow down for iBurst over the holiday season as this latest product innovation demonstrates. Although only available from January 2010, December will see intensive testing and refinement of the iDSL product so that come next month, iBurst can boast their own highly competitive, fixed line DSL broadband product to complement the range of other access technologies we currently offer consumers and businesses,” said Jannie van Zyl, iBurst Group CEO.

Subscribers on iDSL will benefit from lower prices per gigabyte than offered on iBurst’s existing ADSL options, packages have the same in-bundle and out-of-bundle rates per gig, and data not utilised during the month can be carried over to the following month.

iDSL will cater particularly well to the needs of the gaming community, as it offers lower latency (leading to better ping times) and better overall consistency with less jitter allowing for a far smoother experience for applications such as online gaming.

iBurst’s new iDSL product range will be launched in January, in conjunction with iGame Unlimited. iGame is iBurst’s own online gaming platform, with the enhanced iGame Unlimited service offering subscribers on packages of 5 gigabytes and up uncapped gaming bandwidth and priority status on the iGame servers for just R99 per month in addition to their iBurst iDSL or iBurst Wireless subscription.

As part of the launch offer, new iDSL subscribers will have access to the standard iGame platform and receive 1 free gigabyte of gaming bandwidth each month for a period of three months to test out the service.
