iBurst Business powers its first smart gated community
Telecommunications provider iBurst has rolled out a triple-play proof of concept (POC) at the gated community of Monaghan Farm, an exclusive residential estate just north of Lanseria Airport.
iBurst Business has partnered with Goldtel to offer triple-play voice, data and video services (Including DSTV) to selected houses within the estate, with the intention of rolling out the full suite of services to 279 houses on Monaghan Farm.
Monaghan Farm is set on a uniquely beautiful landscape offering urban edge, farm style living and unfenced open spaces. Smart homes connected to high-speed broadband Internet infrastructure form an important part of its value proposition.
iBurst Business will deliver broadband connectivity, voice and data, as well as billing of individual households within the estate. As a partner in this venture, Goldtel will be responsible for the supply of hardware equipment as well as hardware maintenance.
A fibre network that spans the entire estate has been set up by iBurst and a last-mile MetroNet (Microwave) link will be used to provide the community with access to a 4096kbps broadband connection.
All users will enjoy free on-net voice calls and reduced rates on all off-net calls. Home owners will be able to rent a telephony and Internet line for as little as R59 per month per unit and can choose from a range of voice packages from as little as R50 a month and data packages from R300 a month.
"Security, traffic and other lifestyle considerations are prompting many South Africans to move into secure gated communities such as Monaghan Farm. We are seeing growing demand from these developments for voice, video and high-speed Internet services as part of their offering to residents," said iBurst Head of Commercial, Steve Briggs.

Triple-play services are becoming as essential in new property developments as ensuring that the units have running water and electricity services.
