iBurst Protects Subscribers With Security Suite
iBurst has concluded an agreement with McAfee, the largest dedicated computer security company in the world, to provide the acclaimed McAfee VirusScan range of products to iBurst subscribers.
PC Magazine rates McAfee VirusScan 2006 as its top-rated antivirus application with both Microsoft and Linux platforms supported.
The wireless broadband provider’s 24 000 customers will have the option of entering into a 12 month iBurst PC Security Suite subscription at the affordable rate of R12 per month for Virus Protection, Anti-Spyware and a Desktop firewall.
“iBurst is being proactive by encouraging subscribers to take their PC and Internet security seriously and not to avoid the issue by believing it can never happen to me,” said Alan Knott-Craig, iBurst Managing Director.
PC security was brought to the world’s attention in the most startling way when the Mydoom worm infected 250 000 computers in a single day in January of 2004. In March 1999, the Melissa virus spread so rapidly that it forced Microsoft and a number of large companies to completely turn off their e-mail systems until the virus could be dealt with.
“The seriousness with which we should view the integrity of our computers is highlighted when one remembers that the entire productive output of today’s information society workers is located on their hard drives,” said Mr Knott-Craig.
Securing your desktop and is an ongoing task because new threats continue to appear and known threats don’t disappear. Once the security suite is downloaded and installed, subscribers receive automatic updates as new threats are released.
The iBurst Security Suite will protect subscribers from receiving Viruses through e-mail and through the web, as well as unauthorised access of their machines from the Internet. Without this protection, iBurst customers stand the risk of having their machines infected which typically leads to a high utilisation of their Internet bandwidth, resulting in their bandwidth cap being used up.
Subscribers may sign up for the iBurst PC Security Suite by visiting www.iBurst.co.za. A welcome email will be received after signing up and download of the software may be initiated thereafter.
